Looking for a Little Guidance?
“You have led in your steadfast love the people whom you have redeemed; you have guided them by your strength to your holy abode. - Exodus 15:13
Sometimes in life, we just want a little guidance, don't we?
Several years ago while I worked as a nurse I went through a tough season. The stress of making the wrong decision with someone's life in my hands began to scare me. At times, it was so bad that I had trouble sleeping at night and during the day, my mind was constantly thinking about my patients.
You might not be a nurse, but maybe you have found yourself in a similar situation. If your life looks like sleepless nights and stressful days like this, I hope what God showed me can help you too. What brought me through that season is available to all of us.
It's free, but it isn't cheap.
It wasn't a better routine, a new book or a different diet.
It was leaning into the truth about who God says He is. I spent the first part of my morning in prayer like I often did, but this time I began to ask the Holy Spirit to remind me he was with me each moment of the day.
When things would feel out of control at the hospital, I'd be reminded of His hand guiding me. If I felt lost about which decision to make, I would ask the Holy Spirit to lead me to the next right step. And he did.
I love the phrases “lead in your steadfast love” and “guided them by your strength” used in this verse. It’s beyond beautiful to know that our Lord, who is always good, loving, faithful and kind, is leading us. Because I don’t know about you, but sometimes I just need some direction! The comfort that comes from knowing the One who we rely on is faithfully taking us by the hand, everyday, in His strength and love, is unparalleled.
The way He leads us is full of good things to helps us flourish. Where He leads us is always (ultimately) to wonderful places we could never reach by our own abilities! The small faith we put in Him always leads to more than we could imagine.
When we feel confused or in need of some answers, we can ask Him, friends. I know we say it a lot here at the James Method, but it’s because it’s so true- as we draw near to Him, He will draw near to you. As He draws near to us, He is also drawing us into his love and strength and whispering to us “you can do this, because I am here to help you!”

Hello Betsy! You’ve started in the right place by pursuing spending time in His Word! We are praying for you! Continuing in a daily habit of Bible reading and prayer, however short or long you can is a great way to start. If it’s something you’re interested in learning more about, of course I also enjoy using the Verse Map Journal to dive into Scripture or the Scripture Memory Journal to hide God’s word in my heart as well. But feel no pressure, everyone needs to find the study method that works for them<3 Let us know how you’re coming along and we’ll continue to pray for you!
