Finding Deep Satisfaction in Christ

How many of us can say when we first wake up we are satisfied? Beyond that, can we say we are satisfied with knowing Christ? Does the idea of seeing Christ face-to-face someday still bring us that deep joy it once did?

While the joy and excitement in some experiences or relationships might fade with time, the relationship we have with God never needs to be dulled by time. We can never reach the end of Him nor, after learning more about Him, become disillusioned, dissatisfied or discontented with Him.

How is this possible?

The answer lies in knowing the truth. Jesus told us that knowing the truth sets us free. We can be set free from feelings of passivity about our time with the Lord. We can be set free from lukewarm hearts toward Christ and His church. Here are two key truths with, when we grab hold of them, will grow our satisfaction in Christ.

John 7:37-38: In this Scripture, Jesus speaks of granting those who believe in Him a river flowing from their hearts to quench their thirsty souls. We all have moments in our lives where we yearn for more. Often we turn to smaller things to fill them: social media, food, careers or human relationships. While there is goodness to be found in these things, it isn’t where the river of life flows. It also will always lead ultimately to disappointment because no thing and no one can produce the amount we’ll need. Only Christ can do that.

Matthew 6:31-34: Here Jesus reminds us how to live a life of peace, free from anxiety, by focusing less on all teh shiny “stuff” the world offers. Here in the United States there sure is a lot of shiny “stuff.” Some of it isn’t even bad, it’s helpful. But if we focus on “stuff” we’ll find our hearts become crippled with anxieties, fears, depression, disillusionment and worse. This is because we were made with eternity in our hearts. A life focused on this world and all its trappings will always be a dead end. When we turn our eyes to eternal things, we’ll have a truly rich and meaningful life.

I pray that we’re able to take some time this week to meditate on these Scriptures and truths that our hearts are refreshed. One of the many wonderful aspects of Scripture is that it is alive by the power of the Holy Spirit working in us. And when we let Scripture sink deep into our souls, it has the power to change our lives.
