Letting Go, Finding Stability: The Power of Surrender

While I have always liked this verse, over the last few years it has become a favorite verse of mine. Why? In the midst of so many new challenges, full schedules and things the Lord has put on my heart to do, this verse has been a comfort for me knowing that no matter what as I submit to the Lord, the outcomes will be established by him.

Since I am the creative type, I don't tend to try to control too many things in my life. However I do know that in our society especially, with all of the anxiety that people are experiencing in our culture, the need to control things is very prevalent. Of course, I have gone through seasons where I've struggled with the desire to try to control as much as possible as well. Because of that, I feel like this verse has a lot to say and teach us about letting God be God and surrendering to that truth.  Let me share a few things I see in this verse that helped me overcome the need to control and to put stresses aside.

Commit: Looking into this word has its surprises. It means "to roll." I think it is a beautiful mental image that some things are too big to even pick up and give to God. We have to literally roll them to him like some massive boulder.

Establish: This word has the idea of something being secure and stable. It is an incredible truth that when we give to God what belongs to him, i.e. all of our lives, we know that no matter what the outcome looks like he keeps us secure. In the world, so much is insecure. So much changes. It's comforting to know if there is a constant stability in Christ.

Your way: The word here can be translated into a few ways, but in this instance it means device, plan or purpose. I love that purpose is included in the definition because so many times in our world you see so many people who seem to be purposeless. Drifting from one relationship, job, hobby to the next they don't seem to possess any vision or focus. That's the beauty of having a deep-rooted relationship with the Lord and committing our lives to him. We find our vision and purpose.

So friends, this week as we memorize this verse I hope we have a deeper understanding of what a gift it is that the God of the universe loves us so much. He is waiting and wanting to be involved in our lives to help direct, establish and guide us.
