Reflecting on God's Generosity
This chapter in Corinthians is one of the perfect chapters for this time of year. Whether you’re really into shopping or you love creating gifts for loved ones, it’s a busy season full of excitement, preparing and thinking of the needs and wants of others. It’s also the time of year where I can’t help but consider how amazingly generous God is.
Let's really stop and think of the last time we took stock of all the blessings that God has given us. I know that sometimes we can begin to take things for granted. Sometimes living in the truth that God has lifted us out of sin and darkness and brought us into his kingdom of life somehow loses its luster. But this just by itself is truly incredible!
So if we can sometimes take that truth for granted, how much more so our daily gifts? When was the last time you were excitedly thankful about the blessings such as waking up in the morning? And having enough food on the table? And the job that you have which was probably an answer to prayer even if you sometimes complain about it? How about the people in your life that you love and love and care for you? What about water and a place to call home? While not all of us have all of these most of us will have some of them. And even to just have a few of these on top of all the amazing things that God is already done for us can blow our mind if we really think about it.
I love reflecting on all the good things God has done over the year during Christmas. One of my favorite things to do is to wake up early in the morning get a cup of coffee my Bible and a journal and sit in front of the tree now decorated and lit up before the sun has risen and take time and meditate on all the good things he has done for me for the entire world.
So I hope this week as we begin to create or collect gifts for loved ones we also take time to stop and thank our God for all the wonderful gifts He created and given us!
