What Can a Song Do?

We are in full Christmas season now, friends! I love this time of year for too many reasons to count, but I wanted to highlight one in particular. It's the one thing that we do as Christians that the rest of the world participates in this time of year. It is also one of the very few things we do here on earth that we'll be doing forever in Heaven!

We sing songs proclaiming the majesty and beauty of what God did. Whether the world knows it or not, the First Noelle, Away in a Manger and Silent Night, among others, are all worship songs full of awe, amazement and thanksgiving to our Lord and Savior.

I think I've mentioned this before, but singing also happens to be one of those practices that makes us healthier. God didn't have to do this, but it beautifully highlights the fact that we were made for praising the Lord. Simply singing accomplishes a host of health benefits like: reducing stress, improving mood, cardiovascular system and memory!

During this season, my family has always made Advent services a practice. We simply take time to read Scripture, a devotional and sing a song and end with prayer. We light advent candles around a wreath as well, just to add a little extra metaphor of Christ bringing light to the darkness. Also it ads a wonderful cozy glow to it all.

So this season, I hope you are able to take a little time to sing praises to our Lord! It can be simple like singing in the car to work or with family and friends at an Advent service. However you do, I pray it fills you with a little more delight and awe at all Christ has done for us this season!
