God, the Master Builder
This might be the most well-known verse in Scripture aside from John 3:16. It can become so routine to us that we might read it to get onto the next parts but today I’d love for us to slow down. It’s worth savoring this verse for a variety of reasons.
Recently I’ve been diving into Genesis with my Bible Binder using Chapter Summary Sheets and also mapping a few verses from it as well in my Verse Map Journal. I can tell you this: Genesis is worth your adult brain just as much as it was fascinating as a child if you grew up on Biblical stories! If you didn’t I envy you for being able to take this in with fresher eyes!
So why have I fallen in love with Genesis all over again?
For starters, as an artist I can’t help but rejoice knowing my hand is crafting things just like my Father. We were all made with creative ability on some level too, so please don’t gloss over it! How do I know this?
I know because of the sentence “made in His image.” It gives me chills. God’s own likeness was put into each heart of each human. No one you and I will meet is void of God’s fingerprints, friends! This inspires patience and love in me like few other things do. I heard someone once say “You cant say you love God but don’t care for His kids- imagine saying that to someone? Good luck having a relationship with them!”
The last reason I’ll share (although I thought about going on for several more points!) it the magnitude and reach of creation. The heavens and the earth here means everything. We might be tempted at some point in our lives to hold onto anything we’ve made, either tangible or not, and have some kind of “ownership” feeling over it. It’s not possible to have this mindset and know God in truth. Recognizing Him as the Master Builder means everything ends with His name on it. He tenderly allows us to co-create things with him, knowing it’s really him. I love this because it showcases what a gentle, loving and generous God we have!
So friends, as we memorize this week’s verse, I hope it gives us a few moments to pause and celebrate the goodness, generosity and power of our God!
