Holiness and the Whole Picture

This verse was carefully picked out several weeks ago. However, the Lord knows the timing of everything. So I wasn't surprised when my personal devotional time and the writing of this week's blog collided.
I take a walk through the woods nearly everyday (partially for the beauty and partially because my dog goes crazy without it). The trek lends itself perfectly to prayer. While I ask a lot of questions to the Lord, recently when I asked Him what He wanted to teach me about himself, the answer came softly but strongly.
"I am holy."
My mind turned to Leviticus and how the presence of God was met with fear and awe. Now many of us flip flop in and out of prayer like it's as commonplace as a light switch.
Next my mind shifted to Isaiah, where God's presence and His holiness are the subject of song upon song by armies of angels. Now we rarely praise His holiness except for the occasionally worship song on Sunday.
Several other Scriptures floated around in my brain until I realized how huge holiness is to the Lord.
I'm on a quest to understand Him through this attribute better. A few years ago, our pastor reminded the church that we tend to focus on God's love in the modern era. And while it's true that God is love, he mentions his holiness many more times in Scripture. God's holiness helps us understand his love because our sin had permanently separated us from him. God desires communion with us, but His holiness would destroy us in our sin.
This rift is what Christ came to bridge.
Because of Christ and our faith in him, friends, we're now considered holy. Peter mentions this wild truth several times in his letters. It is for this reason I chose to illustrate this with a rainbow. We who were once a stormy mess can become beautiful representations of God's promise when we allow Him to shine through our lives.
Let's remember and lean into more of who God is this week, friends!

Yes, my mind prays like flipping the light switch too! Just lately, I did my own Word Study on these: Almighty, Majestic and All-Sufficient. Lately, God has been reminding how he is my All Sufficiency. I've been worrying a bit about some huge medical bills, God said, "Remember My All Sufficiency, I Am able to meet all of your needs"
That is such a comfort to me!
