Three Reasons to Establish a Morning Bible Study Routine

This morning the sun’s light streamed through the fog over the mountains. The beauty and peacefulness of the moment caught me a little by surprise. It reminded me afresh that it's no wonder David wrote about desiring to hear of God’s love in the morning.

For many of us, the early morning hours are moments we’d avoid if we could. But for David, they represented uniquely special times to hear from God. You might know that most of our team here at the James Method prefers morning study and prayer with the Lord, but you might not know why.

Here are a few reasons we advocate for morning study which will hopefully encourage you. Of course, we fully recognize not everyone can do this so don’t feel poorly if you can’t! Maybe we’ll put together another list our evening prayer partners, because honestly, there isn’t a wrong time to set aside for time with Christ! Feel free to comment below when you like to study and why.

All that said, here are a few reasons why we love morning study:

  1. It’s quiet! There’s a reason Jesus often went to lonely places to pray (Luke 5:16). It’s easier to focus without as many distractions!

  2. It sets the tone for the day. How we begin our day can impact the rest of our time in a big way. By aligning ourselves first thing with the truth of Who God is and who we are because of Him, we’ll be better equipped to walk our days by His light.

  3. It’s a way to tithe our time. Similar to tithing financially, giving the first portion of our day to the Lord shows trust in Him as our Guide and Source of our strength. We could spend our time in numerous other activities to ‘get ahead' or just do whatever we feel like doing. But while I might want to do those things sometimes, I have never regretted the time I spent investing in my relationship with the One who crafted the universe.

So, friends, while there are many times and ways to spend time with the Lord, if you haven’t established a practice or rhythm yet, this is our vote- try tomorrow morning! If you do, we’d love to hear about it!

As always, if you’re joining our community in learning this week’s verse above, happy memorizing!
